As we know, pre-planning is everything when it comes to tricky and complex VFX sequences. JAM came aboard ‘Beyond the Sea’ for a sequence we were in the rare position of being unable to establish exactly how to achieve, prior to commencing filming. This was a sequence in which one of our characters finds themselves in a confrontation… I won’t give away any more than that! In an ideal world we would have confirmed our cast member playing this character in time to have achieved a largely practical approach, but unfortunately that hadn’t been possible. Across the shoot we were able to plan and schedule additional shots for this sequence in the hope of increasing our chances of a seamless end result.
The pressure was on JAM to help us achieve our aim both creatively and in terms of budget, but with an ever evolving plan. Constant chat was had between JAM and our VFX Producer Josie Henwood, throughout the shoot. We were instantly reassured by JAM’s response to an early edit which included a combination of practical (prosthetics, automation & tailored props) and VFX elements (reference objects & plate shots).
Team JAM were simply fantastic! Evren, April, Pete and the whole team were clearly excited and delighted to be part of ‘Black Mirror’. Their passion, enthusiasm and determination to deliver was always apparent. Our creative process needed plenty of discussion, reflection and openness to explore in a different way to the norm as result of how this particular sequence had come together.
It has been and is great to work with JAMVFX, they are professional on every level from the beginning of development, shoot through to delivery. The standard is of a high quality. The team understand the constraints of a TV budget, but the work is not compromised.
Not every budget can stretch to having an embedded VFX supervisor and for TEOTFW 2 this wasn’t an issue. I had total trust in Evren from the start to advise me on the best way to approach stuff as we shot. He was my reassuring, ‘everything is going to be ok just make sure you get this’ VFX pal that would tell me what we needed to make it work at a moment’s notice. The JAM guys were always there when we needed them, advising on removal, additions and augmentation. Their input made sure the VFX post workflow ran without a single hitch. I feel like I should write them a love song.
I’d work with Jam again in a heartbeat. Their pragmatic and imaginative approach to each and every task made everything possible.
It was a pleasure working with Jam. The brief was not easy and the schedule was tight. Nonetheless, Jam team accommodated all the challenging requests in a professional, flexible and friendly way. They are a bunch of talented people and we look forward to work with them again.
The team at JAM were brilliant on TEOTFW – creative and collaborative and they always came with a ‘can do’ attitude. They were a total pleasure to work with on both series. It’s not a show people automatically associate with VFX, but that’s because their work is so good that audiences don’t notice it. It just fits seamlessly into the world of the story.
I love JAM. Not the red sticky stuff, I’m more of a Marmite sort of bloke (fyi). JAM, the post-production people. I’ve had the pleasure of working with the JAM team on numerous occasions over the past few years and they’ve always delivered far beyond my expectations. Supportive, technical, creative, nice… That’s about it really. JAM, I just wanted to spread the word.
Working with Jam was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. They worked above and beyond and were able to make clever and interesting decisions that were always based in the story and the world of TEOTFW and that helped make our show even better.
JAM VFX is comprised of lovely, talented people I have worked with over many years in different places and spaces. How fortuitous that I now find them all working together under one roof! I consider them to be my creative partners and friends, and when we work together, we work together as one team. Every project I bring to them, whether fully formed, or in its infancy, I know will be met with the enthusiasm to push it beyond expectation, a desire to bring it to fruition in clever and unexpected ways, and a level of artistry like no other.
I’ve loved working at JAM. The team is fast, friendly and extremely skilful. They offer creative ideas and cost effective solutions. I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again.
I worked with JAM on a particularly complicated project that had a very limited budget. It was complex in the respect that it was difficult to visualize without extensive experimentation, patience and talent. Well, JAM excelled at all three and the end result is fabulous. So thanks a million to everyone who got involved, it was an extremely pleasurable process.”
A photographers point of view. I work commercially across the globe and increasingly the line between shooting an international print campaign or directing a commercial for that same client is becoming very blurred. There’s just so much media out there, creatives can only guess at all the uses for their ideas. On almost every job we are now asked to not only shoot amazing print but to also create moving content. Sometimes this can be as simple as a piece of motion within a still frame and other times we might be working with storyboards to create a short film. The amazing thing about Jam is that they understand this new work space and accommodate us perfectly. We recently had the pleasure of working with Jam on a 30 sec commercial for the Electoral Commission through The Gate advertising agency London…. every step of the post production was smoothly and perfectly executed….they work though things effortlessly and always have a smile on their face… It’s a very pleasant place to spend the day. Can I move in please !?”
The team at Jam played a huge part in making sure that creative ambition, schedule and budget were all fully respected and adhered to. They are very collaborative and their attention to detail was a constant, from the early stages of briefing to the final last minute requests hours before the launch. Always responsive, efficient and creative – a delight to work with
As usual, It was a real pleasure working with the team at Jam. The experience is always very collaborative and the level of technical and creative detail that gets applied to the project is unsurpassed.
The whole expirence working with Jam really was great for me, you are the perfect mix of friendly people who were dedicated to producing the best possible job.
Just a note to say what a brilliant Unspun job you’ve both done – the campaign (and especially the promo) is getting some serious kudos from internal stakeholders and from Avalon…. one even saying it’s their favourite Dave promo EVER!
Thank you to the great team at Jam Films for their creativity, hard work and dedication. It was a pleasure to have you on board in crafting something special and look forward to working together again on a project soon.
Working with JAM means I know I have a VFX team on board who’ll push a project technically and creatively at every stage of production. They have always overdelivered on every project, because they always care as much as you do. Oh, and they’re NICE.
JAM are my go to company when we have any post projects. The service is first rate. The team are a joy to work with and they always go the extra mile to deliver over and above expectation. They give a totally personal service, which I find many of the bigger post houses fail to do, and are always very competitive in their pricing. I can’t recommend them highly enough.
